NatureDefender began with a single flooded riverbank and a handful of volunteers who refused to look away. What we do hasn't changed, only how far we can reach.
From one riverbank to a nationwide network.
In 2016, a small group of ecologists and residents in Maharashtra watched a monsoon strip a riverbank bare for the third year running. There was no plan, no funding, just a decision to plant what the water had taken.
That first plantation of 400 saplings survived. So did the next. Word travelled faster than any campaign could have, and by 2019 NatureDefender had grown from a weekend project into a registered nonprofit working across six states.
Today, our work spans reforestation, wildlife rescue, river restoration, and climate education, but the instinct is the same one that started it all: go to where the land is hurting, and stay long enough to help it heal.
